The Solicitors: His Robe

about

"The song was recorded at home by singer Lee with a battered old acoustic, an out of tune piano and a snare & hi-hat one afternoon when he was home sick with the flu, the straining on the voice adding to the rough and raw vibe of this demo recording. 'His' robe' was in contention for being re-recorded for the bands debut album but the group decided to only have one 'slower' track on the record (the LP closer 'Goodbye') so this one didn't make the cut this time. The band may have used the song further down the line, but Scott from the label asked for exclusive tracks for the PB100 compilation and it was a good opportunity for the song to see the light of day, and it seemed a fitting track for the compilation showing another side to the groups usually more raucous yet polished sound." lyrics

Since you went out on the tiles, and you went out of town
I guess you could say I've been in denial,
But I've been in my dressing gown.
I won't check my emails, the phone is off the hook
I'm like a child with a mouthful of crayons
But without a colouring book.

But it don't mean I'm lonely just cos I'm alone..

Hanging on the bathroom door, or laying on the bedroom floor
There used to be so much more
Than a 'His' robe.

I really should get out more, I haven't seen the sun
Since all the things that were both 'his' and 'hers'
Became just 'his' or gone
I know you tell me to move on but I know that you're so indecisive
So I'm not going to move from the living room futon
The bed was always to big.

If you want to find me you know just where I'll be..

Hanging on the bathroom door, or laying on the bedroom floor
There used to be so much more
Than a 'His' robe.

You'll come running back when you realise that the things in your backpack ain't whole
(they're only 'hers')
And lest that we forget, you two are half a set, come ring our bell before
I'm knocking on deaths door.

It's hard to tell if he'd still be alive and well
Were it not for the flannel belt
On his 'his' robe.
