Michael Carpenter: I've Been Lovin' You

about

Sydney based guitar pop artist Michael Carpenter will release his new album, “The Big Radio”, through Big Radio Records/MGM on April 8, 2016.

The album is his first solo album since 2008’s “Redemption #39”, and is his 8th powerpop based album of original music since his debut album “Baby” in 1999.

When the album was announced in mid 2015, Carpenter noted that it will be his final solo album of original guitar pop. The album was partially funded with a successful crowdfunding campaign through Pozible. The album was given a ‘soft digital release’ to his campaign supporters and international reviewers in November of 2015. It subsequently ranked highly on most of the international powerpop based blogs, review sites and magazines, including several notices as ‘Powerpop Album Of The Year’. This release in April will be its first public release, and will be available on CD, iTunes and available for streaming. The album will also see a vinyl release in the next few months.

The album continues Carpenter’s progression of one man band efforts, with him playing all the instruments on the album, as well as producing, engineering and mixing. He did however enlist the service of Perth based vocal legends Chris and Courtney Murphy for all backing vocals on the album.

In conceiving the project Carpenter states that he “..wanted to make a classic guitar pop album. Short, catchy powerpop tunes, strong melodies, ballsy production and amazing harmonies.” The album refers to the classic pop stylings of Matthew Sweet, Teenage Fanclub and Tom Petty, but shows Carpenter in arguably the strongest writing and performing form of his long career, with a refined and accomplished style confirming his place at the top of the heap of Australian Guitar Pop artists.

Carpenter is preparing for a run of shows nationally to support the album in the middle of 2016, and is also planning a European tour for early 2017.

Carpenter does assure his fanbase that he’s not completely retiring from music. He will continue to work as a record producer at his Love Hz Studios, as well as working with his side projects The Cuban Heels, The Supahip and The April Family.
