Adam Dennis: You’re So Mean

from (PB:100) by Popboomerang

about

"From time to time I’m a bit politically involved. At the last federal election I had the fortune to be living in one of the electorates in which the campaign was genuinely interesting. The incumbent wasn’t known for her warmth - which was a major factor in my candidate winning the day. Throughout the campaign we focused very much on the issues, avoiding personality politics - but that restraint obviously didn’t extend to my subconscious. The lyrics here are addressed to the former member for my electorate - but it’s a fantasy, an over-the-top exaggeration, which makes it a lot of fun. This song was written and recorded in around three hours, while I was taking an extended lunch break from work". AD

lyrics

Somebody told me that you'd finally hit the wall
I saw a poster that said I had made you fall
But I don't wanna take the blame for that
I let you have your head, that's all I did
That's all I did

You made yourself into someone we just can't like
And all of the workers in your factory went on strike
But I don't wanna take the blame for that
I'm feeling kinda sad, that's all there is
That's all there is

You're so mean, so mean
You make this world unclean
And you drive the biggest car you can afford
When the consequences call
You'll have no defence at all
But I guess that day has come to you at last

You started arguments so your friends got outta the way
But when you fight the world, the world will make you pay
And you've gotta take the blame for that
You made your bed and now, you've got to lie
You've got to lie in it

You're so mean, so mean
You make this world unclean
And you piss off everyone who won't applaud
When the votes go the other way
You'll vow to make us pay
You're incensed the little people dared rebel

When the consequences call
You'll have no defence at all
So take that nasty mouth and go away
