1.
Work yourself out I’ll be here I will still be here Let your hair down I’ll be round I will be around You never know why Anyone stays or why they go I take my hat off To anyone who can keep their word
2.
I can’t remember I can’t remember where it was I know why the river is wide It’s like you don’t know how to use your own head I can’t remember I can’t remember why I tried I know why I know why the river is wide It’s like you don’t know how to use your own head
3.
Why don’t you know what you want? Like I do The hardest thing is turning away To save me from you I don’t know what I’m gonna do You’re your own worst enemy A walking, talking tragedy I don’t know what more I can do Sorry I don’t know what I want Like you do Sorry I won’t beg you to stay To save me from myself I don’t know what I’m gonna do I’m my own worst enemy A walking, talking tragedy I don’t know what more I can do Nobody leaves without a loss Surely we could both be better off I don’t know what I’m gonna do I’m my own worst enemy A walking, talking tragedy I don’t know what more I can do
4.
You were young and fun and good to hang around with Now you're sucking on the tap of wine in a bag And the babies come crying to your rescue Don't bother even trying to change you More than love tonight More than love to make a man out of you Toxic older ladies with their wounds of steel Smashing through the bedroom like a cannon ball You were trapped between your misery and dreaming So they didn't try too hard to save you More than love tonight More than love to make a man out of you More than love to make a man of you When you’re sucking on the tap of wine in a bag
5.
I’ll be the friend that you need me to be Comfort and care for you patiently Warm like the sun and deep as the sea I’ll be the friend that you need me to be You be the lover that I need Fragile and strong simultaneously Forgiving and kind and gentle with me You be the lover that I need Love is a dream Heaven on earth, that’s all I ask Endless future, invisible past Stable and true, the first and the last Heaven on earth, that’s all I ask Love is a dream I’ll be the man I hope I can be Quiet and calm, mostly happy Don’t give up babe, don’t give up on me I’ll be the man I hope I can be
6.
For all my friends that I pushed aside To the girls that I can’t look in the eye Help me wash my hands and be free Because I’m worried what you think of me With my boundless greedy pride And my countless lazy lies Help me do right this time For the love I know I’ve lost For my dreams that I let turn to rust Help me be the best I can be Because I’m worried how you’ll remember me For my selfish and single minded ways Burning in this self-destructive blaze Help me do right this time
7.
Little did I know the waves had drowned me A painful lullaby, the well was so deep Little did I know I was out of control Then you came in with a love for me That I didn't understand I didn't understand You came in with a love for me And I didn't understand I was out of control Little did I know I had something broken A painful lullaby I made myself sing Little did I know I was out of control Then you came in with a love for me That I didn't understand I didn't understand You came in with a love for me I didn't understand I was out of control And I still am Out of control
8.
There’s nothing you can say Won’t make you stay high on my list Nothing you can show or that has been That I can resist Tell me something that won’t do my head in Lie back and think of anything Give me a reason to say all nice things All nice things Everything you do to make your dream come true Hurts you somehow None of your defense is making sense You wear yourself out Tell me something that won’t do my head in Lie back and think of anything Give me a reason to say all nice things All nice things
9.
Run as far as you can, there's so little time I'm changing the sheets, you're changing your mind The night was divine, but the day, no such matter Everyone else has misses and hits You seem to win and it gives me the shits Tonight you're alone, but at least you're still tall and pretty Find a new town where they don't know your face Beat everyone like love is a race You're living so wild, bad luck will find you Wherever you are, I'd call to confess I meant when I said that I loved you the best That doesn't mean I won't love someone better
10.
I grew the forest from a seed I made the mountains tall I willed the ocean rise and fall I threw the planets ‘round the sun I drew the stars by hand With wings on their heels and hearts All the things I do To make me worthy of you I wore the rocks down into sand I turned the sea to rain I painted sunset pink and blue All the things I do To make me worthy of you
11.
Last Point 01:40
This is my last point Won’t be making no phone call This time I’m free Free from what hurts me Free from what makes me feel like I’m wrong This is my last one
12.
It’s closing time But I just don’t want to go There’s someone here I can see I should get to know Could it be the shots or the money I dropped I don’t know Please just take me home To the bed I know Please just take me home It’s closing time, Now there’s nowhere else to go I lost my friends two bars ago And I’ve gone so hard since then Could it be the shots or the money I dropped I don’t know Please just take me home To the bed I know Please just take me home

NICK BATTERHAM : CLOSING TIME AT YAH YAH’S

Closing Time At Yah Yah's is the follow up to Nick Batterham's critically acclaimed 2010 solo debut Second Lovers.

Picking up where the debut left off, the album bristles with spiky observations and stark self-realisations.

Thematically, the album describes the reluctant, yet inevitable end to a period of excess.
A mournful acknowledgement of damage caused, tempered by a sense of hope and a romantic faith in love.

"For all my friends that I pushed aside
To the girls that I can't look in the eye
Help me wash my hands and be free
Because I'm worried how you'll remember me" - Help Me Do Right This Time

The often confessional tone begs the listener for support and forgiveness. Closing Time At Yah Yah's sparkles with a beauty found only in broken things.

"You came in with a love for me that I didn't understand
I was out of control" - Out Of Control

Despite the self-doubt, there is precision and confidence in its expression.
The genre defying production is warm and intimate; sparse instrumentation drenched in transformers and valves.

For over 20 years, Nick has been a central figure in bands such as Blindside, The Earthmen and Cordrazine. His record production experience has once again been applied to his own music, with this release entirely self-recorded and mixed. Guest musicians include members of Cordrazine, The Earthmen and The Hello Morning. There is also a heart-breaking duet with Amaya Laucirica, titled Own Worst Enemy.

"Heaven on earth, that's all I ask
Endless future, invisible past
Stable and true, the first and the last
Heaven on earth, that's all I ask." - Love Is A Dream

The tension between optimism and pessimism dramatically underscores the album. The songs are charming and pretty, transcending the darkness at their core to become objects of great beauty. Closing Time At Yah Yah's is the perfect album for the end of winter and the dawn of spring.

"The night was divine, but the day, no such matter" - Tall And Pretty

When morning slaps you in the face, it is... Closing Time At Yah Yah's.
