(PB059) The Bon Scotts: Oddernity

In time for spring, comes the release of The Bon Scotts’ debut album, ‘Oddernity’.

It’s been a very busy month for The Bon Scotts who recently penned a deal with Popboomerang Records, re-worked their debut album, released a third single, and booked a 19 date national tour. Phew!

The Melbourne avant-folksters, have made a career out of defying expectations. Defying first the assumption they are an AC/DC covers band; secondly defying the convention that only instruments can be used to create beguiling compositions and thirdly defying the notion that they need to be defined into just one teeny, tiny musical box marked 'this is The Bon Scotts' sound'. Cheeky little scamps aren't they? We'd send them to bed without supper if they weren't so damned adorable about it.

With continued insouciance The Bon Scotts now defy you not to blatantly belie your left-leaning tendencies as you sing with unbridled passion the glorious refrain from their latest single, 'We Like War'.

The third single to be lovingly taken from their highly anticipated forthcoming debut album Oddernity, 'We Like War' is a melodically playful little ditty, contradicting the seriousness of its title and reaffirming The Bon Scotts\' place in the national music scene as musical agent provocateurs par excellence and sans culottes.

Resplendent with glockrocking beats, la la lahing overtones, fa fah fahing undertones and topped off with the catchiest chorus this side of the 1960s, 'We Like War' is a paradoxical delight, impossibly combining childlike naivity with an intoxicating world-weariedness to create a tantalizing three-minute slab of folk-tinged power pop.

Following on from the its predecessors, 'The Kids Are Coming' and 'We Can Cause Such A Fuss', 'We Like War' is yet another taste of the boldness, playfulness and, dare we say, genius that listeners are expecting from Oddernity

about

The Bon Scotts are not an AC/DC cover band.

Melbourne ensembles debut release “Oddernity,” is an instrumentally charismatic blend of found sounds, home-made instruments and traditional folk.

The infectious toe-tapping rhythms and unique instrumentation are led by Zimmerman’s cheeky and observant song writing, filled with an often brilliant, if not quirky passion for word play.

The Bon Scotts profound delicacy and playful cynicism certainly ascribes to “what it means to be young and loads of fun” – Neon Hearts.

‘Crackling imagery...youthful, unfiltered charm’ – Mess & Noise
